Pairing your device

Start here

Your Voltra pairs inside the app, not in your phone's Bluetooth settings. If you've been looking for it in the Bluetooth menu, that's why it isn't showing up - it's not supposed to appear there.

This covers the Voltra Pro and the Voltra Air, which pair exactly the same way. Pairing takes about a minute, and you only do it once.

Check it's switched on

Before anything else, check the light:

  • One green flash means the device is on and ready to pair.
  • One red flash means it's switched off. It can't be found while it's off.

No light at all usually means a flat battery. Put it on the charger for [X] minutes and try again.

Before you start

  • Charge it. A device low on battery won't stay visible long enough to pair.
  • Turn Bluetooth on and check your phone isn't in aeroplane mode.
  • Install the app and create your account before you try to pair.
  • Stay close. Keep the device within a metre of your phone.

How to pair

  1. Switch the device on and check for the green flash.
  2. Open the app and sign in.
  3. Tap Device, then Add device, then Add.
  4. Wait for it to finish searching, then tap your device in the list.
  5. [WHAT CONFIRMS SUCCESS - e.g. the app shows your battery level].

This is the screen you're looking for. Your device appears underneath the search circle - tap it to connect.

Once paired, it reconnects on its own whenever the app is open and the device is nearby.

It's not appearing in the app

Work down these in order - they're listed by how often they turn out to be the cause.

You're looking in your phone's Bluetooth settings

Worth repeating, because it's the most common one by a distance. Your Voltra will not appear in the Bluetooth device list on your phone, and it doesn't need to. All pairing happens inside the app.

The device is switched off

Check for the green flash. A red flash means it's off, and it won't be found.

The app doesn't have permission

On Android, Bluetooth scanning needs Location permission as well as Nearby devices - that's an Android requirement rather than something we ask for, and no app can see any Bluetooth device without it. Go to Settings, Apps, [APP NAME], Permissions and allow both.

On iPhone, go to Settings, [APP NAME] and make sure Bluetooth is switched on.

It's already paired to another phone

Your Voltra holds one connection at a time. If it's still paired to an old phone, a partner's phone, or your own phone from a previous install, it won't offer itself to a new one. Unpair it on the old phone first, or reset it using the steps below.

Restart both

Force quit the app, turn Bluetooth off and back on, then reopen it. If that doesn't do it, restart your phone. That clears most of what's left.

It pairs but won't sync

If it connects but your data isn't appearing, the pairing is fine and it's the sync that's stalling.

  • Open the app and leave it on screen for 30 seconds with the device nearby. A sync won't finish if you switch away immediately.
  • Allow background refresh. On iPhone that's Settings, [APP NAME], Background App Refresh. On Android it's Settings, Apps, [APP NAME], Battery, set to unrestricted.
  • On Samsung and Xiaomi handsets especially, battery optimisation shuts down background syncing. Excluding the app from battery optimisation fixes it.

Resetting your device

If none of the above has worked, a reset clears the old pairing so you can start fresh.

  1. Remove the device in the app under Device, if it's still listed.
  2. [RESET PROCEDURE].
  3. Pair it again from the top of this page.

Resetting doesn't delete anything - your history lives in your account, not on the device.

Still not pairing

Then it's more likely a hardware fault than a setup problem, and we'll sort it. Message us with your order number, your phone model and what happens when you try. A ten-second video is the fastest way for us to spot it. If it is faulty, it's covered by your warranty and we'll replace it.
